Case study

When Sustainable Brand Meets a Sustainable Manufacturer

This is a case study about our cooperation with The Sustainables, a young company from Germany on a mission to reduce single-use plastic by introducing the following 3 products:

  • Recycled polyester reusable lunch bags
  • Organic cotton reusable groceries for fruits and vegetables
  • Beeswax food wraps

In addition to learning about our cooperation, you will learn why is it beneficial for your CSR rating to work with
European clothing factories.

Sustainable Production

One of the pillars of their business is ethical and sustainable sourcing. Being that the word sustainable is in their name, they‘re taking this aspect quite seriously.

When we got in touch with the co-owner Esther Cals, there was one clear request. She wanted us to provide them with the GRS certificate for our fabrics before starting the sampling process. We were supposed to make reusable snack bags for them.

And since we pride ourselves on being a sustainable textile and clothing manufacturer, having a client such as Esther was ideal for us. We got a chance to put our GRS-certified yarns to good use.

2 reusable snack bags, one big, one small. There is a sandwich in one snack bag and cookies in another.

Ethical Sourcing

Since ethical sourcing is a non-negotiable for The Sustainables, it was very important for them that the people making their products are working in safe conditions and for a living wage. That is absolutely true about our workforce. Our entire workforce has:

  • A living wage or better
  • 40 hours workweek
  • Paid maternity leave (100% of the salary)
  • Paid sick leave (65% of the salary)
  • Paid bereavement leave (100% of the salary)
  • 20 days of paid vacation
  • 12 days of public holidays
  • Birthday allowance
  • Marriage allowance
  • Childbirth allowance

Another really important factor for The Sustainables was the fact that a manufacturer doesn‘t use sub-contractors for any aspect of textile production.

That’s the truth about us as clothing manufacturers – we run the all-under-one-roof operation. From knitting the fabric to delivery. That way, they are able to follow 100% of the production process.

Conclusion

The Sustaniables are on a rise as an ecologically and socially conscious brand and we‘re happy that we got to make their products this early in their journey.

And we believe they’re happy with the fact that the production process of their articles is aligned with their ethical and sustainability policies.
