Fabric Manufacturers – How to Outclass the Competition with Supreme Fabrics

When you order clothes in bulk, you expect streamlined clothing manufacturing with minimum hiccups. This is important for clothing brand owners, companies that need their own merch as well as event organizers. It’s especially important if you need a sudden reorder. To achieve streamlined manufacturing, the clothing suppliers you work with should handle all or most processes in-house. That’s why they must be fabric manufacturers too.

Without a knitting department, manufacturers will face fabric reordering delays of up to a couple of months. This is even more true now with the ongoing issues with freight transport. That’s why when you search for clothing manufacturers, make sure they’re also fabric manufacturers.

Keep in mind that we only work with the fabrics we manufacture. Also, we only work with companies that have VAT and EORI numbers.

How to manufacture fabrics?

In order for a clothing manufacturer to make fabrics, they need their own knitting mill. A knitting mill is basically a room where your supplier keeps all its knitting machines. They can be of many sorts:

  • Single jersey circular knitting machines
  • Jacquard circular knitting machines
  • Various warp knitting machines

Not to go too in-depth on the topic of knitting machines, these three types of knitting machines make all the textile you ever saw. Circular knitting machines that FUSH˚ has in its knitting mill make fabrics for garments such as sportswear, activewear,
t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, sweatpants, shorts and more.

Clothing manufacturers get different types of yarns that they feed into the knitting machines that later turn those yarns into fabrics with specific knitting patterns.

Standard knitting patterns and their variations available at FUSH˚ (from both cotton and polyester yarns):

  1. Single jersey
  2. Interlock
  3. Rib
  4. Milano rib
  5. Ottoman
  6. 2-thread fleece
  7. French terry
  8. Bird’s eye

To make the best use of these machines and yarns, a custom clothing manufacturer should have knitting experts in their ranks. That’s the only path towards innovation, which sets great clothing manufacturers from others. FUSH˚ is lucky to have an award-winning knitting expert in charge of the knitting department.

Let’s see what you gain from working with a clothing manufacturer that knits its fabrics.

Three benefits of clothing manufacturers with knitting mills

A collage of images of circular knitting machines. The "FUSH" logo is visible at the centre of the image.

  1. Reorders are much simpler because if a manufacturer runs out of fabric, they can simply knit more of it in a matter of hours or days
  2. If your clothes require dye-sublimation, a manufacturer that can make clothes from the same yarns and knitting patterns will achieve the same colours and shades much easier
  3. Knitting experts are capable of creating unique knitting patterns that can improve the functionality of fabrics

The last benefit is especially important because it can give your product a competitive edge. Let’s see a couple of examples of customized fabrics available at FUSH˚.

As you can see, different fabrics give you different options and are suitable for different types of garments. The two fabrics that aren’t in the picture above are our most recent custom products – BeeDry© 70 GSM fabric and fabric for sports jerseys.

BeeDry© 70 GSM fabric

Knitted to resemble a hive, this fabric is busy as a bee when it comes to moisture-wicking. All while staying ultra-lightweight at only 70 grams per square meter.

These fantastic properties of our BeeDry© fabric make it a perfect choice for an
activewear brand that has a collection for runners. A running t-shirt made from this fabric weighs half of a regular running tee, which can significantly improve the performance of that garment.

Fabric for sports jerseys

Our 135 GSM sportswear fabric is ideal for team wear brands. That’s because jerseys from this fabric can withstand contact sports conditions (pulling, falling etc) and stay breathable. The rough outer surface makes it more durable, while the relatively low weight and yarn choice give it fantastic moisture-wicking properties.

You can find various other applications for our customised fabrics. What you definitely get with each of them are excellent moisture-wicking and consistent fibre quality. As we made millions of pieces of clothes over the years, we’ve determined what yarns work best. That’s why we only use the ones we know will perform in given conditions.

Conclusion

You’ve learned how a clothing manufacturer with a knitting mill can help your brand stand out and manage sudden spikes in sales. You’ve also learned that different knitting patterns have different applications. Use all that knowledge to ask informed questions to your potential suppliers.
